Injection Molding Expert (f/m)

We are currently looking for a full-time Injection Molding Expert (f/m) within our engineering team for the segment Interior. In this global role, you will be responsible for all necessary activities within our programs relating to the specification, definition, design, delivery and approval of injection molding tools required to produce parts to a desired geometry, pre-series (incl. prototypes), serial and trade parts. You will represent our injection molding expertise at customers, internally and suppliers. As our Injection Molding Expert, you will focus on establishing best in class injection molding know-how by building in-house Interior Comfort Systems engineering capability (material, simulation, tooling and process) and continuous improvement of the company’s injection molding needs with preferred injection molding partners. When it comes to developing injection molding products, achieving customer satisfaction, in terms of quality, cost, delivery / time. Training and mentoring global teams on established design standards and best practices for injection molding products will be another part of your tasks.

The position will be based in our Tech Center in Hallbergmoos near Munich with about 85 employees. Your manager will be the Vice President Technology Strategy and Innovation for our segment Interior, also based in Hallbergmoos.

Areas of responsibility and tasks

  • Develop tooling concepts in preparation of quotation (pre-series and production)
  • Develop tooling RFQ files and support purchasing in tooling offers during the acquisition phase
  • Prepare part feasibility study in the tooling perspective
  • Support development of process / tooling flow charts & feasibility
  • Ensure the documentation of detailed tooling definition and specifications
  • Support our Supplier Development Engineers / purchasing to identify & qualify tooling suppliers
  • Ensure implementation of up to date tooling technology
  • Check and approve the tool construction design
  • Monitor and control the tooling manufacturing process to ensure the tooling quality & timing from the toolmaker
  • Ensure the tool readiness and performance in due time and cost target
  • Support / lead pre-series trial out together with the program team and handover the tools including all related spare parts and documents to the program team / production plant
  • Review and implement feedback from pre-series builds
  • Lead the team to ensure implementation of results from product-specific projects or programs into the specifications in PLM
  • Evaluate and implement results from “Lessons learned” into the specifications in PLM
  • Support APQP / Advanced Manufacturing to ensure that checking fixtures (CF) / Poka Yoke devices are according to OEM specification and consider ease of daily use in production environments
  • Ensure the legal compliance of the tools (safety)
  • Support, mentor and recommend the program team to take knowledge-based decisions by showing / using the knowledge standards
  • Responsible for the technical consistency of injection molding domain across the regions
  • Drive the modularization / standardization efforts

Competence profile

  • Bachelor’s degree or above majored in mechanical, plastic or polymer engineering with expertise in all aspects of injection molding (precision molding, over molding, 2k molding, simulation, tooling and material knowledge)
  • Minimum of five to seven years’ relevant experience in the same function, ideally within the automotive industry
  • Knowledge of QMS (TS 16949, QS-9000, ISO9001) GD&T, QFD, DFM, DFA, DVP&R, DOE, DFME / PFMEA, control plans & Advanced Problems Solving Methodology would be advantageous
  • Very good English language skills, both written and verbal, other language skills are a merit (e. g. German, Polish, Swedish or Mandarin)
  • Energetic, highly self-motivated, and detail-oriented with an international mindset
  • Strong leader & team player with extended verbal & written communication skills at all levels
