Supplier Quality Engineer

Main Objectives

  • Communicate with Supply Base to achieve effective problem resolution in regards to incoming goods quality

Area of Responsibility

  • Supplier claims related to manufacturing processes performed in the Kongsberg Automotive Willis facility
  • Developmental activities and events related to Kongsberg Automotive supply base
  • All activities aimed at supporting Kongsberg Automotive Quality and Environmental Management Systems

Personal Tasks

  • Plans and conducts the analysis, inspection, and/or test to assure the quality of assigned product or component
  • Performs quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and company quality records
  • Maintains constant contact with suppliers and actively contributes to the company goals in terms of cost recovery and supplier performance

Main Challenges

  • Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current level of supplier performance, detecting trends and proactively acting to correct them
  • Documents data obtained during all supplier quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures
  • Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during supplier quality assurance activities
  • Communicates significant issues or developments identified during supplier quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management
  • Prepares reports to communicate involvement and results of supplier quality assurance activities
  • Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management
  • Directs technical and administrative workers engaged in supplier quality assurance activities

Competence profile (ideal)


  • BS Degree and/or a minimum of 5 years’ experience and/or training working with Supplier Quality and Supply Base Development
  • Good working knowledge of computer systems; MS office
  • Formal training and/or working knowledge of Quality Core Tools and Problem Solving methodologies 


  • Six-Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Minitab and IMDS proficient


  • Strong organization and time management skills – ability to plan and work on multiple, on-going projects
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, at all levels
  • Must have the ability to work well with others and to establish and facilitate good cooperation and communication
