Applications Engineer

As a key member of the Kongsberg LDC Global Engineering Team, the Application Engineer (AE) provides the technical link between our customer's engineering, KA's manufaturing locations and KA's product engineering.  The position requires daily interaction with the LDC Product Engineering Team members and customers.

Areas of Responsibility

  • The AE is often the initial program contact and will help customers define an application's technical and design specifications in favour of LDC's components, materials and processes
  • As the technical link between the customer and KA, the AE is in constant contact with KA's LDC customers, and thus, greatly influences the customer's image of Kongsberg; demonstrates to the customer a thorough understanding of KA's LDC products and KA's LDC manufacturing processes while also developing a thorough understanding of customer applications
  • Provision of on-site mock ups; concept cable and mechanical design sketches, or marked prints as needed to convey an idea
  • Provide application data, digital photographs, customer cad data, customer drawings and E-reports as needed to document the customer's interests and describe the customer's application in detail to the KA Product Engineer, sales and manufacturing team
  • Responsible for documentation and maintenance of all technical details of the customer's application
  • Attendance at customer builds to develop an expertise in the customer's assembly process and to provide immediate on-site expertise and required
  • Building stong relationships with the customer and gaining familiarity with all customer processes ECN, PTR and DA
  • Familiarity with VAVE, DFMEA, KBD-NPI, PIP and 8-D processes and contribute actively to these processes
  • Provide support to KA product engineers program management and quality activities as requested

  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Automotive cable design background
  • Professional in appearance, detail oriented and organised
  • Technically oriented with strong mechanical aptitude (enjoys hand-on work)
  • Have the ability to influence the decision of others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English / German / French)
  • Willing to travel as required for the role
  • Catia V5 skilled CAD user capable of ccreating top level assemblies, component 3D models and drawings
  • Full working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Project, Power Point, PLM and Email applications
  • Independent worker with a strong work ethic and self-motivation
  • Ability to manage multiple programs and action items simultaneously
  • Good overall familiarity with KA LDC manufacturing processes and be able to describe all processes
  • General familiarity with plastic materials and design, appearance requirements of cosmetic parts, and a customer's appearance approval process
  • Desire to build relationships with customers, portraying KA in a positive light and demonstrating a desire to please the customer
